Dedham Times Profiles the Career of Needham Bank's Mark Whalen

3/21/2017

During the 1980s, 90s and well into the 2000s, Mark Whalen of Dedham was a familiar face around the town’s downtown district. As a teller at Dedham Co-Operative Bank on Washington Street who later rose to become the bank’s President he was prominent in the community as a member of organizations such as Dedham Historical Society & Museum. Last but not least he is a husband and father.

When Needham Bank acquired Dedham Co-Operative Bank in 2007, Whalen joined the leadership at the new institution. In January he stepped down from his position as Chief Executive Officer there, and is currently assisting in the transition of Joe Campanelli to CEO. Whalen is now CEO Emeritus and remains a member of the bank’s Board of Directors. He will completely retire in May but will stay on as a Director after that time.

To gain perspective on his involvement in the community over the past few decades, we spoke with several of his colleagues in banking and beyond. We also interviewed Whalen at Needham Bank in February.
